Spring Bouquets in Birmingham: What’s in Season Now (and How to Make Them Last)

Spring always feels like a fresh start—longer days, brighter mornings, and that first real burst of colour in the garden. Here in Hall Green, we see it in the shop every day: customers coming in with a little more energy, looking for something joyful for a birthday, a “thinking of you”, or simply to bring a room back to life.

At Urban Design Flowers, we’ve been creating bespoke bouquets in Birmingham for decades, and spring is one of our favourite seasons to design for. In this guide, we’ll share what’s in season right now, how to choose the right spring bouquet for your occasion, and our tried-and-tested care tips to help your flowers last.

Why seasonal spring flowers are a smart choice

Choosing seasonal flowers isn’t just about following trends—it’s about getting the best quality, colour, and value.

  • Fresher stems, better vase life: Seasonal flowers are typically at their best, which means they often last longer when cared for properly.
  • Naturally beautiful colour palettes: Spring flowers come with that unmistakable “lift”—soft pastels, bright yellows, crisp whites, and fresh greens.
  • Perfect for Birmingham gifting: From Hall Green to Solihull and across the city, spring bouquets suit everything from family celebrations to corporate reception desks.

If you’re ordering online, our Hand-tied bouquets are the easiest way to send something truly personal—made by hand, not pulled from a warehouse shelf.

What spring flowers are in season in Birmingham right now?

Availability can shift week to week depending on weather and supply, but these are the spring favourites we’re designing with most often.

  1. Daffodils (Narcissus)-The classic sign that spring has arrived. Daffodils bring cheerful colour and a very “British spring” feel. They’re brilliant in mixed bouquets, but they do need a little know-how (more on that below) because they can affect other stems if not conditioned correctly.
  2. Tulips-Elegant, modern, and full of movement. Tulips continue to grow in the vase, which means your bouquet changes shape over time—part of their charm. They’re ideal for contemporary hand-ties and also look stunning in simple, single-variety bunches.
  3. Hyacinths-If you love scent, hyacinths are a spring must. They add a rich fragrance and soft texture—perfect for gifting when you want a bouquet that feels extra thoughtful.
  4. Ranunculus-A favourite for that “luxury spring” look—layered petals, romantic shapes, and gorgeous colour options.
  5. Anemones-Striking and bold, often with a dark centre that gives a bouquet a modern edge.
  6. Freesia-Another scented favourite—delicate, uplifting, and ideal for smaller arrangements.
  7. Spring foliage-Fresh greens make a spring bouquet feel light and airy. We use foliage to create shape, movement, and that just-picked feel.

Choosing the right spring bouquet for the occasion

Spring gifting in Birmingham often falls into a few common moments. Here’s how we recommend choosing:

  • Birthday bouquet: Go bright and celebratory—tulips, ranunculus, and pops of yellow or coral work beautifully.
  • Anniversary or romantic gift: Softer tones and layered blooms (ranunculus, anemones, premium roses when available) create a more intimate feel.
  • New home / “just because”: Fresh greens, whites, and gentle pastels feel clean and uplifting.
  • Get well soon: Choose lighter scents and cheerful colours—avoid anything too overpowering if the recipient is sensitive.
  • Corporate reception flowers: Consider a design that looks polished for longer. Our can be tailored to your brand colours and refreshed on a schedule.

If you’re unsure, ring the shop and we’ll guide you—this is where a local florist makes all the difference.

How to make spring flowers last longer (our florist care checklist)

A beautiful bouquet should keep looking its best for as long as possible. Here are our trusted care steps—simple, but genuinely effective.

  1. Use a clean vase-Bacteria is the number one reason flowers fade early. Wash your vase with hot soapy water before arranging.
  2. Trim stems properly-Cut 1–2cm off the stems at a 45-degree angle. This increases the surface area for water uptake.
  3. Remove leaves below the waterline-Leaves sitting in water break down quickly and encourage bacteria.
  4. Use flower food (and follow the measurements)-Flower food isn’t just “nice to have”—it helps balance the water and feed the blooms.
  5. Change the water regularly-Every 2 days is ideal. If you can’t, at least top it up daily.
  6. Keep flowers away from heat and fruit-Radiators, sunny windowsills, and fruit bowls speed up ageing. (Fruit releases ethylene gas, which flowers hate.)
  7. A special note on daffodils-Daffodils release a sap that can shorten the vase life of other flowers. If your bouquet includes daffodils, we condition them properly before arranging. If you’re mixing your own at home, let daffodils sit in water on their own for a few hours first, then re-cut and add them to your mixed vase.

For more practical tips, we can also add a quick care card to your order—especially helpful if you’re sending flowers as a gift.
